China's steel industry is no more prepared to accept BHP Billiton's bid to take over Rio Tinto, despite Australian authorities concluding the combination would not distort the seaborne iron ore market.  The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) last week said it would not oppose BHP's $132 billion bid, which several national regulators are examining for signs that it could infringe competition laws. But the China Iron and Steel Assn (Cisa) has no plans to drop its opposition, an industry source close...

$US 4.4b fees for BHP's Rio bid

The headline price of mining group BHP Billiton's $US86 billion ($118 billion) hostile takeover of Rio Tinto is not the only big number involved. Yesterday BHP estimated it would pay $US4.4 billion in fees to bankers, lawyers and accountants.

Each company has amassed a team of at least eight global investment banks to help advise on the complex transaction. BHP's lead advisers are Goldman Sachs JBWere and Gresham, while Rio is relying on Morgan Stanley and Macquarie for its primary advice.
